Assemblage is a tricky painting. Here seemingly random cultural references come together in one piece. On the right side, a recreation of Velázquez’s portrait of Infanta Maria Teresa with the simplified butterfly motif in her hair…with a single real butterfly for an accent. This is something that I truly like in Art — a search for the essence… After all, what is reality?
